Why is it illegal to talk on your phone while driving, but perfectly legal to scarf down a double Big Mac while driving?

Update- thanks guys, I should have realized it was because MURICA.

A double Big Mac requires less attention.

Where are you finding double Big Macs?

talking on your phone doesn't give you the mega nutrients to stave off the dangerously underweight epidemic sweeping the country. its for the greater good.

Why is it illegal to get road head, but legal to scarf down a Culver's mushroom and swiss burger? It's just stuffing meat in your mouth.

I have no idea. But then again, I've had plenty of close calls with people nearly hitting me while on the phone. I've never been run off the road by someone holding a cheeseburger.

Found the fatty!

No but seriously I think it actually is illegal (falling under driving while distracted) but I can drive and eat without looking at my food which keeps my eyes on the road. Texting you have to look at the screen which takes your eyes off the road. That's my guess.

Because panic and hysteria.

Basically, cell phones are new, and therefore scary. So people panic about the same accident causing distractions that we've had and ignored for decades now. I guarantee if the in car radio was a new invention and not something from the era of lax vehicle safety rules, we'd be unable to change stations unless the car was stopped.

I have outright asked my police officer friends and relatives why I can't text and talk while driving and they have laptops open and functioning in their cars. They get touchy about that.

they had triple quart pounders hidden in some obscure menu at McDonalds but didn;t show up on t he board behind the counter. You could also add a patty if you so felt the need. I ate a full pounder one day then had to replace the toilet.

I remember my dad still had a pager and no cellphone in 1999. And he's a doctor. They didn't become ubiquitous until the early 2000s. That's recent enough that the sorts of people who make these laws have spent way more of their lives without cellphones than with them.
